Extraordinarily cold weather is hitting all of TX & there were rolling blackouts throughout the day. It was so nice to be able to stay inside cozy and warm.

Today Adam and I completed the first rock wall, worked on the tread behind it and obliterated a rock which is now hidden in the dirt. Our breaks were a little longer since John was gone; it was nice and relaxing. Everybody seems to be gaining up on Adam for some reason but he doesn’t seem to notice it. Also there was more bashing of Marlene’s crew. That really gets to me since I became envious of her crew. I wish they would just stop.

Worked on tread all day today. John totally misconstrued my tone of voice, snapped at me and pretty much changed my mood for the rest of the day. I think I will return to my subdued and respectful attitude to prevent this from happening again. (Just 9 more days!!) Kurt came for a visit and saved us some work. Ian complimented my finishing work during feedback and returned to a seemingly negative mood but became positive again afterwards…I can’t wait to get out of here and be around different people. I emailed Myra my perspective on things. We’ll see how that goes. Now I’m merely reflective. I need to find a balance between being my normal happy self and not being misconstrued as something else and not feel bitter about having to go to these measures. I’m sure silent happiness is achievable; then it will ever be put down by others. I also need to rediscover my super hero abilities 🙂

I am so happy! Tomorrow is August! Only 8 days left! We did the yeti this morning! I cut a bunch of roots, moved shale and debris, and finished up some tread! I have breakfast in the morning so it’s time for bed! Tonight was super fun!

I’m so tired! De-rooted a bunch of tread and finished the reroute today. Then worked on restoration.

Today was probably the best day of the entire summer. Pat (the District Ranger), Loraine, and Joann came for a tour of the reroute. They loved it! Pat said nobody could have done better work than we did. Because their visit lasted so long we didn’t have to work at all today! So we drove up to Mill Hill to do laundry. Dawn came up there and we helped her cut some stuff up for the picnic later. Right after laundry we drove to the marina to join the picnic. We all stuffed our faces! There were burgers, hot dogs, chips and dip, couscous, beans, mac and cheese, cantaloupe, watermelon, cookies, brownies, and homemade ice cream! After we ate, Pete became Master of Ceremonies and led the incredible praise that we received. Joann from the supervising office in Roanoke gave us certificates and Dawn’s crew gave us all hats (John told Dawn I already have a brown hat so I was given a blue one 🙂 ). Then Pete gave us all certificates signed by his boss along with other cool stuff and gave me a hug! Then he had us sign a picture of us. I really like Pete. I think I may try to keep in touch with him so that he remembers me and I could get a letter of recommendation laater…After the awesome picnic where we nabbed watermelon, cookies and Pepsi, we had an awesome boat ride with Captain John and a super nice swim. Laura and I also made a badass dinner. Too bad I wasn’t at all hungry…Most awesome day ever!!! 😀
